Chapter 2: The Fall

Nathan didn’t notice it at first.

The morning after he left, he woke up in Camille’s penthouse, sunlight cutting across his face, his phone buzzing nonstop on the glass table.

He smiled, thinking it was business as usual.

It wasn’t.

Twenty-three missed calls.

Twelve urgent emails.

Five messages from his CFO marked CRITICAL.

His smile faded.

He opened the first email.

Subject: Immediate Contract Suspension

Then another.

Subject: Investor Withdrawal Notice

And another.

Subject: Emergency Board Meeting – Attendance Required

“What is it?” Camille asked lazily, still wrapped in silk sheets.

Nathan didn’t answer.

His fingers moved faster now, opening file after file.

Contracts—terminated.

Accounts—restricted.

Access—denied.

“What the hell…?” he muttered.

He dialed his office.

No answer.

He called his assistant.

Straight to voicemail.

Finally, his CFO picked up.

“Where have you been?” the man snapped.

“What’s going on?” Nathan demanded.

A sharp, bitter laugh came through the line.

“What’s going on? We just lost three major investors overnight. Every one of them pulled out at exactly 6:00 a.m.”

“That’s impossible.”

“No,” the CFO said quietly. “What’s impossible is that every single one of them signed with the same holding group… within minutes.”

Nathan’s stomach dropped.

“Who?”

There was a pause.

Then—

“Sterling Group.”

The name hit like a punch.

Nathan froze.

“That doesn’t make any sense,” he said slowly. “We’ve never worked with—”

“Yes, we have,” the CFO cut in. “You just didn’t know it.”

The call ended.

Nathan sat there, unmoving.

Behind him, Camille frowned. “You’re overreacting. These things happen.”

But Nathan wasn’t listening anymore.

Because for the first time…

He was starting to understand.

---

By the end of Day Two, it was chaos.

Banks froze his personal accounts.

The board removed his executive authority.

The company shares—once untouchable—were being quietly absorbed.

Every door he tried to open…

Was already locked.

And someone else had the key.

---

On Day Three, he went home.

Or what used to be home.

The gates opened, but something felt wrong immediately.

No guards.

No staff.

No cars in the driveway.

The mansion stood silent.

Empty.

He rushed inside.

“Hello?!”

Nothing.

His footsteps echoed through rooms that no longer felt like his.

The art was gone.

The furniture—gone.

Even the photographs…

Gone.

Only one thing remained.

A single envelope on the marble table.

His name on the front.

Nathan tore it open with shaking hands.

Inside was a single sheet of paper.

Three lines.

**You said I would calm down.

You were right.

I did.**

No signature.

No explanation.

But he didn’t need one.

For the first time in his life…

Nathan Brooks understood exactly who he had just lost.

And exactly what she had taken with her.
