The Truth Beneath the Frosting

The ballroom no longer felt like a place of celebration.

It felt like a crime scene.

Guests whispered in stunned disbelief as police officers pulled the groom to his feet. His once-perfect suit was wrinkled, his expression stripped of charm and replaced with something darker—something desperate.

The bride couldn’t move.

Her eyes were locked on her Maid of Honor.

“Tell me it’s not true,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the chaos.

The Maid of Honor—Lena—finally looked up. Tears welled in her eyes, but she didn’t deny it.

“I didn’t want to,” Lena said, her voice trembling. “You have to believe me.”

The bride took a step back as if struck.

“Then why?” she demanded. “Why would you do this to me?”

Before Lena could answer, the groom let out a bitter laugh.

“She doesn’t know, does she?” he sneered.

“Shut up!” Lena snapped, panic flashing across her face.

But it was too late.

“Your perfect little life,” the groom continued, his voice cold. “Your inheritance. Your father’s company. You really think all of that was just going to be yours forever?”

The bride’s heart pounded.

“What are you talking about?”

The doctor who had tested the frosting stepped forward again, his face grave.

“That wasn’t poison meant to kill,” he explained. “It was a powerful sedative. Enough to hospitalize dozens of people.”

A horrifying realization dawned.

“You were going to make everyone sick
” the bride whispered.

“And then?” she demanded.

The groom smirked.

“And then lawsuits. Scandal. Your family business ruined overnight. Insurance claims denied. Stocks crash. And guess who steps in to ‘help’ clean up the mess?”

The room went ice cold.

“You,” she said.

“And her,” he added, nodding toward Lena.

The bride turned slowly, her heart shattering.

“You were part of this?”

Lena broke.

“They said they’d hurt my brother!” she cried. “I had no choice!”

Silence fell again.

For the first time, the bride saw not just betrayal—but fear.
