That evening, Vanessa rushed home, desperate to fix everything.
Her husband, Daniel Whitmore, stood in the living room, his expression colder than she had ever seen.
“You humiliated her,” he said flatly.
“I didn’t know!” Vanessa pleaded. “She looked—”
“Poor?” Daniel cut in sharply. “And that was enough for you?”
Vanessa opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Daniel shook his head slowly. “Do you even hear yourself?”
“She insulted me first!” Vanessa snapped, grasping for control.
“No,” he said. “You exposed yourself.”
The words hit harder than any slap.
“My mother built everything we have,” he continued. “And today, she saw something I refused to see.”
