CHAPTER 3: THE FALL

“This is a lie!” Nolan shouted, but his voice cracked.
“It’s evidence,” I replied.
The doors at the back of the ballroom opened.
Police.
Federal agents.
The room erupted into chaos.
“You set me up,” Nolan hissed, stepping close enough for only me to hear.
I met his eyes.
“No,” I said quietly. “You built this yourself. I just refused to ignore it.”
They took his arms.
He struggled.
Panicked now.
Desperate.
“This doesn’t change anything!” he shouted as they dragged him away. “You signed the prenup! Everything still belongs to us!”
I almost smiled.
“Read clause seventeen,” I said.
