Chapter 1: The Quiet Before the Storm

Alexander did not raise his voice.

That was what terrified me most.

He sat beside Sofia, his large hand gently resting over hers as if she were still a child afraid of the dark. His eyes moved slowly, memorizing every bruise, every cut, every trembling breath.

“Who else was there?” he asked quietly.

Sofia hesitated. “Three women. I don’t know their names.”

Alexander nodded once. No anger. No shock. Just calculation.

Then he stood.

“I’ll be back,” he said.

“Where are you going?” I asked, my heart racing.

He looked at me—calm, cold, precise.

“To make sure this never happens again.”
