Chapter 8: The Cost of Standing Tall

Success came with a price.
Threats.
Lawsuits.
Whispers meant to discredit me.
“They’re digging into your past,” my legal director warned.
I smiled faintly.
“Let them.”
There was nothing left to hide.
I had already lived through the worst of it.
One night, I found a letter slipped under my office door.
No return address.
Just one sentence:
“You should have stayed silent.”
I held it in my hand for a long time.
Then I folded it neatly… and dropped it in the trash.
