Chapter 1: The Evidence Unsealed

The moment the investigators stepped inside, the air shifted.
No one moved.
No one breathed.
The faint sound of latex snapping against skin echoed like a gunshot as the forensic examiner adjusted his gloves.
“Señor Julián Ortega,” one of the investigators said calmly, flashing his badge. “We need you to remain where you are.”
Julián forced a laugh, but it cracked halfway through.
“This is ridiculous. You can’t just walk into my house—”
“Correction,” Ernesto interrupted softly. “This house is in my name.”
Silence.
That was the first domino.
Ofelia’s trembling hand finally reached the black trash bag—but before she could open it, the forensic examiner stepped forward and took it from her grip.
“No,” she whispered. “You don’t understand—”
“Oh, we do,” the advocate replied.
The bag was opened.
Inside: shredded documents, carefully taped back together.
Loan approvals.
Transfer statements.
And Valeria’s forged signature—repeated over and over.
Julián’s face drained of color.
“Financial fraud,” Ernesto said quietly. “Identity theft. And now—assault.”
Each word landed like a verdict.
From the garden, Valeria watched everything unravel.
