PART 8 — Natalie’s Return

Natalie visited on a Tuesday morning.

No makeup. No hesitation.

Her daughter held her hand, small fingers wrapped tightly around a future that would never resemble her past.

“I wanted her to see this,” Natalie said quietly.

“To understand what leaving looks like.”

Her daughter looked around the center—at the people, the calm, the absence of fear—and asked a simple question:

“Is this a safe place?”

Natalie looked at me.

I answered.

“Yes. It is.”

And in that moment, I realized something critical:

Safety isn’t the absence of danger.

May you like

It’s the presence of control.

And for the first time, we were building that—brick by brick—for people who had never been allowed to feel it before.
