Chapter 1: The Breaking Point

The bouquet slipped from his hand, white lilies scattering across the kitchen floor like fallen promises.

“Say that again,” he whispered, his voice dangerously quiet.

The pregnant woman—Emily—could barely hold his gaze. Her lips trembled, her voice cracking under the weight of everything she had endured. “She told me you’d never come back… that you didn’t want this baby.”

A long, suffocating silence filled the room.

Slowly, the soldier turned to his mother.

“What did you do?”

His mother crossed her arms, her expression unchanged—cold, calculated. “I protected you,” she said flatly. “You had a future. A career. Not… this.”

“This?” His voice rose, shaking with disbelief. “This is my family!”

Emily tried to sit up, wincing in pain. He rushed to her side instantly, kneeling beside her, his hands gentle as they hovered over her injuries, afraid to hurt her more.

“Who hurt you?” he asked again, softer this time.

Her eyes flickered toward his mother.

That was enough.

Something inside him snapped.

“You lied to her. You hurt her. You hurt my child.” His voice cracked, rage and heartbreak colliding. “You’re not protecting me—you destroyed everything.”
