Chapter 3: A New Beginning

Six months later, sunlight poured into a small, cozy home far from the shadows of the past.
Laughter filled the air.
He stood in the doorway, watching Emily rock their newborn daughter in her arms. The baby’s tiny fingers curled around her mother’s hand, peaceful and safe.
“Your turn,” Emily smiled.
He walked over, carefully taking his daughter, holding her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
Because she was.
“What should we name her?” Emily asked softly.
He looked down at the baby, then back at her.
“Hope,” he said.
Emily’s eyes filled with tears. “Hope… I like that.”

Life wasn’t perfect.
There were scars—some visible, some not.
There were court dates, difficult conversations, and long nights filled with healing.
But there was also something stronger than all of that.
Love.
The kind that protects.

One evening, as they sat together on the porch, watching the sunset, Emily leaned her head on his shoulder.
“Do you ever regret it?” she asked quietly.
He didn’t hesitate.
“Not for a second.”
He kissed the top of her head, holding her close as their daughter slept peacefully inside.
