That evening, Alejandro came home.

Or tried to.

The front gate did not open.

He called me within seconds.

“Mariana, what is this?”

“Security protocol,” I said calmly. “We’re tightening access.”

“My access?” he asked.

“Yes.”

A pause.

Then, “We need to talk.”

“We will,” I said. “Tomorrow. Dinner. Eight o’clock. El Dorado Hotel.”

Neutral ground.

Public enough to prevent a scene.

Private enough to finish this.

He agreed too quickly.

Which told me he thought he still had control.

He didn’t understand something yet.
