Chapter 14: Into the Unknown

The three contacts formed a triangle around the Vanguard.

Perfect spacing.

Perfect synchronization.

“They’re herding us,” Sarah said.

Evelyn nodded slightly. “Yes.”

“Into what?”

Evelyn looked ahead at the dark void beyond the sonar range.

“Forward,” she said.

“Captain?” the helmsman asked, unsure.

Evelyn’s voice didn’t waver. “Take us straight through them.”

The room stiffened.

“That’s an order.”

The submarine surged forward.

The three unknown objects didn’t attack.

They parted.

Letting the Vanguard pass.

Guiding.

Leading.

“What the hell…” someone whispered.

Evelyn’s eyes sharpened.

“They’re not enemies.”

“Then what are they?” Sarah asked.

Evelyn took a breath.

“Messengers.”

The ocean floor began to rise on the display.

A massive formation appeared—unnatural, geometric.

A structure.

Buried deep beneath centuries of silence.

“Captain…” sonar said, almost reverent. “That… that’s not natural.”

“No,” Evelyn said softly.

“It’s not.”

The three contacts settled near the structure.

Waiting.

Evelyn made her decision.

“Prepare a remote probe.”

Sarah looked at her. “You’re going in?”

“We came this far,” Evelyn said. “We don’t turn away now.”

The probe launched.

Descending slowly toward the structure.

Lights cutting through darkness untouched by time.

And as the camera feed came into focus—

The truth revealed itself.

Not a weapon.

Not a threat.

A signal.

An ancient system.

Dormant.

Waiting.

“For us?” Sarah whispered.

Evelyn stared at the screen.

May you like

“Yes,” she said.

“For someone ready to see it.”
