Chapter 4: Reckoning

Khloe woke two days later.

Weak.

Exhausted.

But alive.

Her first instinct was immediate.

“My baby…”

Marcus was already there.

“We’re still fighting,” he said softly.

Tears slipped from the corners of her eyes.

Not from pain.

From fear.

From everything that had almost been taken from her.

Marcus reached for her hand—but stopped just short.

“I should have protected you,” he said. “Instead… I protected comfort. Appearances. People who didn’t deserve it.”

Khloe didn’t speak.

So he continued.

“I’ve filed for a restraining order against Isabella. Pressed charges. And I’ve made a public statement.”

That caught her attention.

“What kind of statement?”

He swallowed.

“The truth. All of it.”

For the first time… Khloe looked at him fully.

Not as her husband.

But as a man standing at the edge of redemption.

“I don’t need perfection,” she said quietly.

“I need honesty.”

Marcus nodded.

“And you’ll have it. From now on.”
