Chapter 4: The Return

It took less than a day.
The Maid hadn’t gone far.
A small roadside diner. Still in uniform. Still working.
As if nothing had happened.
When the Man in Suit entered, she looked up—but didn’t seem surprised.
“You came,” she said.
“I did.”
He sat across from her.
No entourage.
No power display.
Just two people at a table.
“You acted without permission,” he began.
She nodded.
“I did.”
“You challenged someone above you.”
“Yes.”
“You cost yourself your job.”
A pause.
Then:
“I’d do it again.”
No hesitation.
No regret.
Just truth.
For the first time, something shifted in his expression.
Not authority.
Respect.
“You misunderstood me yesterday,” he said quietly.
Her brow furrowed slightly.
“I didn’t say your worth was finished.”
He slid a card across the table.
“I said your job was.”
She looked at it.
Then at him.
“What job?” she asked.
May you like
His answer was simple.
“One that requires courage.”
