CHAPTER 2: THE FALL OF A KING

Richard didn’t understand what was happening at first.
The bank calls started early.
“Mr. Harrington, several transactions have been temporarily suspended.”
Then investors began withdrawing.
Then regulators called.
By noon, three of his major projects had been halted pending investigation.
By evening…
His board demanded an emergency meeting.
Richard slammed his phone onto the table.
“This is impossible.”
Across from him, Vanessa shifted nervously.
“What if… she found something?”
He turned sharply.
“She doesn’t have the capacity for this.”
But even as he said it, doubt crept in.
Because Khloe had never been weak.
She had simply been quiet.
And quiet people, he realized too late…
observe everything.
At 9:17 PM, Richard received a single email.
No subject line.
No greeting.
Just one attachment.
A legal notice.
Filed by Harrison Cole.
Fraud. Asset concealment. Financial abuse. Intent to abandon a pregnant spouse.
Richard’s face drained of color.
“This isn’t a divorce,” he whispered.
Vanessa looked at him.
“What is it?”
May you like
He closed his eyes.
“It’s a war.”
