CHAPTER 1: THE DOORS THAT BROKE FIRST

The music didn’t stop.
That was the strangest part.
As the front doors of Ravenshore exploded open with a thunderous crack, the string quartet below continued playing—violins trembling through a melody too elegant for the violence entering the house.
Guests turned slowly, confusion first… then fear.
Because the men walking in were not guests.
Black suits. No hesitation. No smiles.
And at the center of them—Dominic Kane.
He didn’t rush.
He never rushed.
Power like his didn’t need to.
A senator near the staircase stammered, “Mr. Kane, this is a private—”
Dominic didn’t even look at him.
“Lock the doors,” he said quietly.
Behind him, steel clicked into place.
Every exit.
Every window.
Sealed.
Upstairs, Harper didn’t see any of it—but she felt it.
May you like
A shift in the air.
Like the house itself had just realized it no longer belonged to Grayson Langford.
