Chapter 3: A New Beginning

The police arrived within minutes.
No one tried to stop them.
Victoria didn’t resist.
As they cuffed her, she scanned the room one last time—her gaze lingering on Daniel.
“You were never meant to see the real world,” she said softly. “None of you were.”
Then she was gone.
Just like that.
The illusion collapsed.
Paramedics moved quickly, testing drinks, checking guests. Thankfully, no one had consumed enough to cause serious harm. The damage had been stopped in time.
Because of Elena.
Hours later, the ballroom stood nearly empty.
Broken glass had been cleaned. Decorations remained, but the magic was gone—replaced by quiet reflection.
Daniel found Elena standing alone near the window.
“You saved everyone,” he said.
She didn’t turn. “I just did my job.”
“No,” he said gently. “You risked your life.”
She finally looked at him.
Up close, the exhaustion in her eyes was clear. But so was something else.
Relief.
“I almost didn’t make it in time,” she admitted. “She saw me earlier. That’s how I got this.” She gestured to the scratch on her cheek.
Daniel shook his head. “Still… you came anyway.”
A small, tired smile touched her lips. “Someone had to.”
There was a pause.
Then he said, “Thank you.”
Not just polite gratitude.
Something deeper.
She nodded.
Outside, the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon.
A new day.
A second chance.
Guests would go home with shaken hearts—but alive.
Truth had cut through illusion.
And in its wake… something better could finally begin.
Elena took one last look at the room, then turned to leave.
May you like
Not as an intruder.
But as the one who made sure everyone walked away.
