Chapter 1: The Ashes of Truth

Daniel’s fingers tightened around the fragile newspaper clipping. The words blurred, but the image remained clear—a burning mansion swallowed by flames, smoke clawing into the sky like a desperate plea.

“I… survived this?” he whispered.

The elderly woman nodded, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “You were barely a year old. I was working nearby when I heard the explosion. Everyone thought no one made it out alive… except you.”

The ballroom felt colder.

Sophia stepped back, her heels clicking against marble. “So what? This doesn’t change anything—”

“It changes everything,” Daniel interrupted.

He unfolded the letter.

My dear Daniel,
If you are reading this, then fate has chosen a path I hoped you’d never walk. You were not abandoned… you were hidden. Protected. There are people who would destroy everything to erase your name.

Daniel’s breath caught.

“Who would want to erase a child?” someone whispered in the crowd.

The elderly woman finally looked up.

“Because he wasn’t just any child.”
