Chapter 2: Rebuilding From Ashes

The first few months were the hardest.
There were nights she cried herself to sleep, one hand resting protectively over her growing belly. The silence in her new apartment felt unfamiliar, almost suffocating at times. But slowly, that silence became peace.
When her son was born, everything changed.
The moment she held him in her arms, tiny fingers wrapping around hers, she felt something stronger than heartbreak—purpose.
“Hi, my little fighter,” she whispered, tears streaming down her face. “It’s just you and me now… and we’re going to be okay.”
And they were.
She rebuilt her life piece by piece. She found strength she never knew she had—working, raising her son, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
Years passed.
Her son grew into a bright, kind-hearted boy with her eyes and her resilience. He never lacked love—not even for a second.
One afternoon at the park, as she watched him laugh and chase bubbles in the sunlight, a man approached her gently.
“Hey… I think your son just declared himself the king of the playground,” he joked.
She smiled—really smiled—for the first time in a long time.
“Sounds about right,” she replied.
