Run Back to the Lightâ

The church is still there when he returns â lights glowing softly through the storm, guests frozen in uncertainty.
The bride stands alone now, bouquet lowered, realization written across her face.
But Esteban doesnât see any of that.
He sees only the little girl.
She is still standing in the aisle, holding the torn photograph tightly to her chest, like it is the only thing keeping her standing.
He walks slowly toward her.
Rainwater drips from his hair. His voice breaks for the first time.
âWhere is your mother?â
The girl hesitates.
Then whispers:
âHospital⊠sheâs not waking up.â
A long silence.
Esteban kneels. For the first time in years, he is not a groom, not a businessman, not a man hiding behind pride.
Just a father.
He gently takes her hand.
âWeâre going to get her,â he says.
Not a promise.
A decision.
FINAL SCENE â HOPEFUL RESOLUTION
Hours later.
A hospital emergency room.
Doctors rush through double doors as Esteban carries Yohandra in his arms â pale, weak, but alive.
The little girl runs beside him.
The bride watches from afar⊠then quietly steps aside, letting him go without anger.
Because she understands now.
Some truths are bigger than weddings.
Bigger than pride.
Inside the ICU, Esteban holds his daughterâs hand on one side⊠and Yohandraâs on the other.
Beeping machines steady.
A faint breath returns.
The girl whispers:
âDaddyâŠ?â
Esteban closes his eyes.
May you like
âYes,â he answers.
And for the first time in years⊠the storm finally stops.
