Chapter 2: The Ghost Child

“Where is she?” Eliza demanded, her voice breaking. “Where is my daughter?!”
Marcus’s voice returned, calm and haunting.
“Safe,” he said. “Safer than she ever would have been with you.”
Damian clenched his fists. “You stole a child.”
“I preserved a secret,” Marcus corrected. “A secret powerful enough to control every person in this room.”
Oliver looked between them, confused and afraid.
“Why would anyone take a baby?” he asked softly.
No one answered.
Arthur coughed, blood staining his lips.
“She wasn’t just any baby,” he said. “She was the key to everything Marcus built.”
Eliza turned to him, shaking. “What does that mean?”
Arthur met her eyes.
“It means your daughter didn’t grow up hidden.”

He paused.
“She grew up trained.”
