Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Bruise

Every eye turned toward the small boy clinging to the woman in white, his tiny hands trembling as if he still felt the echoes of fear chasing him. The man in black didn’t move, his presence like a wall—unyielding, immovable.
“Step back,” he repeated, his voice lower this time, colder.
The woman in brown scoffed, though a flicker of uncertainty crossed her face. “You don’t understand. That child belongs to me.”
The boy shook his head violently, burying his face deeper into the woman’s shoulder. “No! Please… don’t let her take me back…”
Murmurs spread through the crowd.
The woman in white gently cupped the boy’s face, her voice soft but firm. “Hey… hey, look at me. You’re safe now. No one is taking you anywhere.”
A guest stepped forward—an older gentleman, clearly someone of authority. “What is going on here?”
The man in black turned slightly. “Call security. And the police.”
That’s when the boy whispered something that made the woman in white freeze.
“She locks me in the dark… when I’m bad…”
The room turned ice cold.
The woman in brown snapped, her composure breaking. “He’s lying! He’s a difficult child—he needs discipline!”
But the bruise on his shoulder told a different story.
