Chapter 3: A Place Called Home

Weeks passed.

The grand mansion no longer felt cold—it felt alive.

Laughter echoed through the halls where silence once lived.

Ethan stood in front of a mirror, adjusting a small suit. “Do I look okay?”

The man in black crouched beside him, fixing his collar. “You look like a gentleman.”

Ethan grinned.

Across the room, the woman in white watched them, her eyes filled with something new—peace.

Today wasn’t just any day.

It was the day everything became official.

In a quiet courtroom, under warm sunlight filtering through tall windows, the judge smiled kindly. “Ethan, do you understand that this means they will be your family?”

Ethan nodded, holding both their hands tightly. “Yes.”

“And do you want that?”

He squeezed tighter.

“Yes.”

The gavel came down softly.

“It’s official.”

Tears flowed freely now—but they were different tears. Not of fear.

Of belonging.

Later that evening, back at the mansion, Ethan ran down the same hallway—but this time, he was laughing.

No one chased him.

No one shouted.

At the end of the hall, the woman in white knelt again—but this time, smiling.

He ran straight into her arms.

“I’m home,” he said.

And for the first time in his life…

He truly was.
