Daniel pulled her aside, away from the crowd, away from his mother’s crumbling pride.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he demanded.

The bride laughed softly—bitter, exhausted.

“Would you have loved me the same way?”

He didn’t answer.

That was answer enough.

“I wanted something real,” she continued. “Not business deals disguised as relationships. Not people calculating my worth before knowing my name.”

“And now?” he asked.

She looked back at the rooftop—the whispers, the judgment, the shifting alliances.

“Now I know I was right to hide it.”

Daniel’s chest tightened.

“Because this?” she gestured around them. “This is exactly what I was afraid of.”

A long silence passed between them.
