Chapter 1: The Silence That Followed

The rooftop terrace fell into a suffocating silence.
Crystal glasses hovered midair. Conversations died on lips. Even the soft violin music seemed to fade into nothing.
The older woman staggered back half a step, her heels clicking sharply against the marble.
“That’s… not funny,” she said, but her voice had lost its edge.
The younger woman slowly rose from the floor, still holding the boy close to her side. She didn’t rush. She didn’t tremble anymore.
Her composure returned like armor.
“I’m not joking,” she said calmly. “You’ve been managing my company’s flagship store for six months. And tonight, in front of my investors, my partners, and my guests… you decided to fire me.”
A ripple of shock moved through the crowd.
Someone whispered, “That’s her? The owner?”
The boy clung tighter, peeking out from her side with wide, uncertain eyes.
The older woman’s face drained of color. “No… that’s impossible. I would have known.”
“You were hired to manage operations,” the younger woman replied. “Not to question ownership.”
A man from the crowd stepped forward—one of the board members. His expression was tense.
“Ma’am… should we proceed with your instruction?” he asked carefully.
She didn’t hesitate.
“Yes. Shut it down. Effective immediately.”
Gasps echoed.
The older woman’s voice cracked. “Wait—please—there’s been a misunderstanding—”
“No,” the younger woman said, her gaze steady. “There hasn’t.”

For the first time, her voice softened—but not with weakness.
“With everything I’ve built… I will not allow this kind of cruelty under my name.”
