CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET HE COULDN’T BURY
“You don’t understand what she is,” his father said, voice tightening.
Ethan turned slowly. “Then explain.”
A long silence followed.
The older man’s jaw clenched, his confidence cracking for the first time. “She lied to you. About who she is. About why she married you.”
Ethan didn’t move.
Behind him, his bride whispered, “It’s not what he says…”
But the father cut her off. “She didn’t marry you for love. She came here for revenge.”
The word hit like a bomb.
Ethan’s heart pounded, but he didn’t turn around. Not yet.
“Revenge for what?” he asked.
And that’s when the truth came out.
“Her family,” the father said quietly. “The company we destroyed ten years ago. The one that… didn’t survive.”
Ethan’s blood ran cold.
