Chapter 5 - The Gavel Falls
The legal proceedings concluded with surprising speed. Eleanor’s initial strategy—playing the victim and accusing Martha of the assault—crumbled instantly in the face of hard evidence.
In the sterile courtroom, Jack sat rigid beside his attorney, Brenda. Across the aisle, Eleanor looked pale, stripped of the arrogant glamour she had wielded in their home. The medical records, the recovered fingerprints on the lighter, and a damning psychological evaluation painted a clear, indisputable picture of a child abuser.
"The court finds the evidence of physical and emotional abuse overwhelming," the judge stated firmly, glaring down at Eleanor. "Full legal and physical custody is awarded to the father. The restraining order is permanent."
Eleanor was escorted out, legally barred from ever approaching Lily or Jack again. Her financial demands were dismissed, leaving her with nothing but legal fees and a shattered reputation. Jack walked out of the courthouse feeling a massive weight lift from his chest. The legal barrier protecting his daughter was now impenetrable.

Back at the estate, Jack turned his attention to Lily’s inner healing. He enrolled her with Dr. Evans, a renowned child psychologist specializing in play therapy. Twice a week, Lily visited a brightly colored office filled with sandboxes and toys. Slowly, the locked doors of her trauma began to open. She learned to verbalize her fears rather than internalize them, understanding that what Eleanor did was not a punishment for being bad, but the actions of a sick adult.
"She is incredibly resilient, Jack," Dr. Evans noted after their fifth session. "Having you and Martha as a united, loving front is doing wonders for her recovery."
