Chapter 2: A House Full of Secrets

The car was warm.

Too warm.

Caleb’s eyes struggled to stay open as heat wrapped around him for the first time in hours. He kept glancing at Elle, watching every breath she took like it might be her last.

The man spoke into his phone, voice sharp now.

“Prepare the medical room. Now.”

No hesitation. No explanation.

Just command.

The house they arrived at didn’t look real.

Lights glowed across a massive estate hidden behind iron gates. Security cameras turned as they passed. Doors opened before they reached them.

Inside—people moved fast.

Doctors.

Staff.

Questions.

“Who are they?”
“Where did you find them?”
“Sir—this is serious—”

“Save her,” the man snapped.

Everything stopped.

Because when he spoke like that—

No one argued.

Caleb clung to Elle as they tried to take her.

“No!” he cried weakly.

“She’ll be okay,” the man said quietly, kneeling again. “I promise.”

Promises.

Caleb had heard that word before.

But this time—

He let go.
