Chapter 2: The Recording

Paramedics rushed in, carefully lifting the pregnant woman onto a stretcher. She winced—but her composure never broke.
As they carried her past the blonde woman, their eyes met.
And for the first time—
The blonde felt fear.
Real fear.
Detective Ruiz held up a hand. “Before anyone leaves…”
He turned to one of his officers. “Play it.”
A small device was placed on the table.
A recording.
Crackling at first.
Then clear.
“You think anyone will believe you?” the blonde woman’s voice sneered.
A shove.
A scream.
A body tumbling down the stairs.
Silence.
Then—
“I’ll make sure you lose everything.”
The room froze.
The caretaker covered her mouth.
The blonde woman staggered back. “No… that’s not—”
May you like
Ruiz cut her off.
“It’s exactly what it sounds like.”
