Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth

At the hospital, the atmosphere was tense.
Doctors moved quickly, but the woman on the bed remained calm, her hand resting protectively over her belly.
Detective Ruiz stood beside her.
“You knew this would happen,” he said.
She didn’t deny it.
“I knew she would try,” she replied softly.
“Why didn’t you stop it?”
Her gaze shifted to the window.
“Because sometimes… the truth needs to reveal itself.”
Ruiz studied her carefully.
“You’re not who you said you were, are you?”
A small smile curved her lips.
“No,” she said.
“My name isn’t just Elena Carter.”
A pause.
“It’s Elena Ruiz.”

The detective went still.
“My father,” she added gently, “taught me to finish what people start.”
