Chapter 1: The Silence Before Collapse

The moment the investigators stepped out of the study, the air in the mansion changed.

It wasn’t just tension—it was finality.

The husband’s smug grin faltered first. His laughter, once loud and arrogant, now echoed awkwardly in the marble hall before dying completely. He turned, slowly, as if refusing to believe what he was seeing.

Behind him, his mother froze mid-motion, her fingers still buried beneath layers of black trash bags. The forged mortgage documents slipped from her trembling hands, scattering like dead leaves across the floor.

“Mrs. Han,” one of the forensic officers said calmly, “we have a warrant.”

The words hit harder than any accusation.

For the first time, panic replaced control.

“No… no, this is a mistake…” she stammered, backing away.

But it was already too late.

Because this wasn’t a mistake.
