Chapter 1: The Word That Broke the Room

The ballroom had never felt so cold.
Not with the music still playing.
Not with crystal glasses clinking.
Not even with dozens of eyes now locked on a single moment that made no sense.
“Mamma.”
The word echoed in the father’s mind like a crack through glass.
His name was Adrian Vale—a man who built empires on certainty. Contracts. Numbers. Facts.
But this?
This wasn’t possible.
The nanny—Elena—stood frozen, her face pale but composed. Too composed.
“Answer me,” Adrian demanded, his voice low but shaking beneath the surface. “Why did he call you that?”
Across the room, his fiancée, Victoria, still burned with humiliation, her hand trembling from the slap she had just delivered. “This is ridiculous,” she snapped. “He’s confused. He’s just a child—”
“No,” Adrian cut her off.
Because his son—Leo—wasn’t confused.
Leo didn’t cry.
Didn’t hesitate.
He clung to Elena like she was the only safe place in the world.
Then Leo looked up again, his small voice barely a whisper—but every word landed like thunder.
“Because she sings the same song… the one from my dreams.”
The room went silent again.
Adrian’s chest tightened.
“What song?” he asked slowly.
Leo leaned into Elena’s shoulder and softly hummed a melody.
Three notes.
Simple.
Familiar.
Impossible.
Adrian staggered back a step.
Because that song… was one only one person had ever known.
His wife.
The woman who died three years ago.
The mother Leo never got to grow up with.

Adrian turned back to Elena, his voice now barely controlled.
“Who are you?”
