Chapter 3: The Agreement That Vanished
“Emily… what did you do?” Daniel asked, his voice now tight.
Emily didn’t answer him.
Instead, she turned to Arthur and nodded once.
That was enough.
Arthur spoke into the phone, his tone calm and precise. “Yes. Execute the cancellation immediately. All of it.”
Daniel’s heart dropped.
“All of what?” he demanded.
Arthur finally looked at him.
“The Brooks-Carter merger,” he said. “Effective now—it no longer exists.”
The words hit harder than any slap.
“No… no, that’s not possible,” Daniel said, shaking his head. “That deal was already finalized. Contracts signed—investments locked in—”
“Conditional,” Arthur corrected. “Every clause hinged on one thing.”
He gestured toward Emily.
“Her.”
The room erupted in whispers.
Daniel staggered back. “You’re bluffing.”
