Chapter 2: The Footage

The hotel manager didn’t hesitate once police asked.

Within minutes, the ballroom lights dimmed, and a portable screen was rolled in. Guests who had come for champagne and vows were now witnesses in something far more permanent.

The footage began.

Grainy. Silent. But undeniable.

It showed the head table.

Preston laughing.

Guests moving around.

And then—

Him.

He picked up his own phone.

Looked around.

Slipped it into Sophie’s denim jacket when no one was watching.

A ripple of shock tore through the room.

“No—no, that’s not—” Preston stammered.

But the video kept going.

It showed him walking to our table.

Showed him reaching into her pocket.

Showed that same cruel smile.

And then—

The confrontation.

The moment I stepped in.

The moment his face twisted.

The moment he grabbed the oak board—

Gasps exploded around the ballroom as the screen froze on impact.

Even without sound, you could feel it.

The violence.

The intent.

The truth.

Madison stepped back like she’d been burned.

My mother’s face went pale.

My father… said nothing.

The officer turned slowly to Preston.

May you like

“Sir,” he said, voice steady, “you’re under arrest for assault of a minor and filing a false accusation.”

The golden child’s world shattered in real time.
