They put him in handcuffs in front of everyone.

Two hundred witnesses.

Phones out.

Reputation collapsing with every second.

“Dad!” Preston shouted as they led him away. “Do something!”

But for once, Richard Bennett had no script.

No argument.

No power strong enough to rewrite what everyone had just seen.

Because truth doesn’t negotiate.

Madison removed her engagement ring slowly.

“I can’t marry you,” she said, her voice trembling—not from heartbreak, but from clarity. “I don’t even know who you are.”

“You’re overreacting,” Preston snapped. “It was just a kid—”

That sentence ended him.

Even the last few supporters turned away.

Because there it was.

Not regret.

Not remorse.

Just the same arrogance that had always protected him—now exposed.

My mother stepped toward me, her voice shaking. “Evelyn… we didn’t know—”

I looked at her, really looked this time.

“You never wanted to know.”
