Chapter 1: Cold Justice

The alarm didn’t just echo through the corridor—it swallowed it whole.

Red light pulsed like a heartbeat as the steel shutters sealed every exit. The Captor spun around, panic replacing arrogance in a single breath.

“What the hell—?!”

He ran to the nearest door. Locked. Another. Sealed.

Then the temperature dropped.

Not naturally.

Artificially.

Deliberately.

A low mechanical hum filled the hallway—the same sound Evelyn had triggered from inside the freezer. Frost began creeping along the pipes overhead, crawling like veins of ice toward him.

Inside the freezer, Evelyn stood perfectly still, her breath controlled, eyes sharp. The small vent she’d adjusted now fed her a narrow stream of warmer air—just enough to survive.

She pressed the remote again.

A distorted speaker crackled alive in the hallway.

“Feels familiar?” her voice echoed, calm and precise.

The Captor froze.

“You built this place,” she continued. “Every trap. Every fail-safe. Every... experiment.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” he shouted, but his voice cracked.

Evelyn’s lips curled slightly.

“Six people,” she said. “Locked in rooms just like this. You called it ‘testing human endurance.’”

The frost reached his shoes.

“And now,” she whispered, “you get to participate.”

The lights flickered.

And for the first time in years, the man felt truly powerless.
