Chapter 2: A House Transformed

By morning, the mansion felt… different.

Word had spread like wildfire.

The tyrant manager was gone.

And the billionaire owner—once distant, untouchable—had seen everything.

Lily stood nervously near the kitchen entrance, her hands twisting together. She barely slept. She kept expecting someone to wake her up and tell her it was all a dream.

“Good morning.”

She turned quickly.

Alexander Vaughn stood there again—but this time, without the cold edge. He looked… human.

“Did you eat?” he asked.

She hesitated. “…Yes, sir.”

“Good. Because that’s going to be a rule now.”

“A… rule?”

“No one in this house goes hungry,” he said firmly.

He walked further in, addressing the gathered staff.

“Effective immediately, all wages are reviewed and adjusted. Any mistreatment—by anyone—comes directly to me.”

The staff exchanged stunned looks.

One of the older maids stepped forward, voice shaking. “Sir… we didn’t think you knew.”

Alexander’s jaw tightened.

“I didn’t,” he admitted. “That’s my failure.”

Then his gaze shifted back to Lily.

“Walk with me.”

Her heart pounded as she followed him through the grand halls—places she had only cleaned in silence.

“Why didn’t you report it?” he asked.

She lowered her eyes. “People who complain… don’t stay long.”

He stopped walking.

“That changes today.”

He studied her for a moment, as if making a decision.

“What are you doing here, Lily?”

“I… needed the job.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

She hesitated, then finally whispered, “I used to go to school. I wanted to be a nurse.”

Something flickered in his expression.

“Used to?”

“My mom got sick. I had to work.”

Silence stretched between them.

Then—

“Go back to school.”

She blinked. “What?”

“I’ll pay for it,” he said simply. “Tuition. Living expenses. Everything.”

Tears filled her eyes instantly.

“Why would you do that for me?”

May you like

Alexander’s voice softened, just slightly.

“Because someone should have done it sooner.”
