Chapter 1: The Recording

Marcus couldn’t breathe.

The security footage flickered on his private monitor, but the image was crystal clear. Lily—his little girl—was on her knees, trembling, her tiny hands gripping the edge of a stainless-steel dog bowl.

“Eat,” Cassandra said calmly, her voice colder than ice. “If you don’t finish it, you don’t get dinner tonight.”

Lily sobbed, her shoulders shaking. “Please… I don’t want to…”

Cassandra crouched beside her, her perfectly manicured fingers digging into the child’s chin, forcing her face downward. “You want your daddy to love you, don’t you? Then stop being difficult.”

Marcus’s heart shattered in his chest.

Every laugh Cassandra had faked… every gentle smile… every “loving” glance—it all burned away in an instant, revealing something monstrous underneath.

He didn’t storm into the kitchen.

He didn’t call the police.

Marcus Vale did something far more dangerous.

He pressed “record.”

For the next hour, he watched in silence as Cassandra’s mask slipped completely. The threats. The manipulation. The cruelty disguised as discipline.

And when the footage ended, Marcus leaned back in his chair, his eyes dark and steady.

“Now,” he whispered, “you’re finished.”
