Chapter 2: The Perfect Trap

The next morning, Cassandra woke up to sunlight pouring into the mansion—and Marcus acting exactly as he always had.

Calm. Polished. Unaware.

“Big night tonight,” he said over breakfast, sipping his coffee. “The foundation gala. I want you by my side.”

Cassandra smiled, flawless as ever. “Of course.”

Lily sat quietly at the table, not touching her food. Marcus gently placed a hand over hers.

“You don’t have to eat if you’re not hungry,” he said softly.

For a split second, Cassandra’s eyes flickered.

That was new.

By evening, the ballroom glittered with power and wealth. Politicians, investors, media—all gathered under one roof. Cameras flashed as Marcus and Cassandra entered hand in hand, the picture of perfection.

At the center of the stage, Marcus raised his glass.

“I want to thank everyone for believing in my vision,” he began smoothly. “Tonight is about truth, integrity… and the people we trust most.”

Cassandra beamed beside him.

Then the lights dimmed.

A large screen flickered to life behind them.

At first, it showed a smiling family photo—Marcus, Lily, and Cassandra.

Then the image cut.

The room fell into silence as the footage began to play.

Lily. The dog bowl. Cassandra’s voice.

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

Cassandra’s smile froze.

“No… no, this isn’t—” she whispered, grabbing Marcus’s arm.

He gently pulled away.

“Don’t,” he said quietly. “Let them see who you really are.”

The video continued—every cruel word, every threat echoing across the stunned ballroom.

By the time it ended, Cassandra stood alone in a sea of horrified faces.

“I can explain—” she started, her voice breaking.

But no one was listening anymore.
