CHAPTER 1: THE TRUTH THAT SHATTERED TIME

Michael’s fingers tightened instinctively around his father’s trembling hand.
“What do you mean?” he asked again, his voice low but urgent.
The old man swallowed hard, his eyes darting toward the hallway where the nurses had just taken the little girl.
“She’s not just my granddaughter…” he said, his voice breaking. “She’s your daughter, Michael.”
The world stopped.
Michael felt as if the ground beneath him had vanished. The noise of the hospital faded into a dull echo.
“My… daughter?” he repeated, barely able to breathe.
“I didn’t know how to tell you,” his father continued, tears streaming down his wrinkled face. “After you left… after that night you walked away from everything… Emily came to me. She was pregnant.”
Michael’s heart slammed violently in his chest.
Emily.
The name alone brought a flood of memories—love, laughter, and the devastating argument that had torn them apart years ago.
“She didn’t want to burden you,” the old man whispered. “You were already struggling. She said you deserved a chance to build your life.”
Michael staggered back slightly, running a hand through his hair.
“And Emily… where is she now?”
The silence that followed was answer enough.
His father lowered his gaze.
“She passed away… three years ago.”
Michael’s breath caught in his throat.
All this time… all these years… he had a daughter.
And he never knew.
A nurse suddenly rushed back into the lobby.
“Doctor! The child’s condition is critical—we need you now!”
May you like
Michael snapped back to reality.
Without another word, he turned and ran.
