Chapter 4: Dawn After the Storm

Weeks passed.

The files were released.

News spread across the world—names, transactions, hidden operations brought into daylight. Arrests followed. Entire networks collapsed under public scrutiny.

Ethan never watched the headlines for long. He didn’t need to.

What mattered was quieter.

A small house rebuilt near the coast. No hidden basements. No locked doors.

Just wind, ocean, and morning light.

Lily ran across the sand barefoot, laughing freely now—not the cautious silence of before, but something lighter. Real.

Clara stood beside Ethan on the porch, holding a cup of coffee she barely remembered how to enjoy.

“They’re gone,” Ethan said softly.

“Not all of them,” Clara replied. “But enough that we can breathe.”

He looked at her. “Was it worth everything we lost?”

Clara turned toward him, eyes steady. “We didn’t lose everything.”

She nodded toward Lily.

Ethan followed her gaze.

Their daughter was building something in the sand—carefully, deliberately, like she believed it would last.

Ethan exhaled slowly. For the first time in years, the weight in his chest loosened.

Clara reached for his hand.

Above them, the sky shifted into a warm, endless morning.

Not an ending.

But something close enough to peace to feel like one.
