CHAPTER 2: The Truth Beneath Silence

The next morning, sunlight poured through the tall windows of the estate. For the first time since she arrived weeks ago, Elena woke up in a bed—not a cramped servant’s cot, but a real guest room.

She sat up quickly, disoriented.

Then she saw it—the folded set of new clothes at the foot of the bed. Simple. Elegant. Clean.

A note rested on top.

Take the day to recover. No duties. We will speak when you’re ready. — J.V.

Her fingers trembled as she traced the initials.

Why would a man like him care?

Later that afternoon, Elena stood outside Julian’s study, her heart pounding. She raised her hand to knock—but hesitated.

“Come in,” his voice called, as if he already knew she was there.

She stepped inside.

Julian stood by his desk, no longer in a tuxedo but in a simple dark suit. Still powerful. Still intimidating.

But his expression softened when he saw her.

“How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Better,” she said quietly. “Thank you
 for last night.”

He nodded. “You don’t need to thank me for basic decency.”

Silence stretched between them.

Then, unexpectedly, Elena spoke again.

“Why did you really help me?”

Julian studied her for a long moment.

“Because I know what it’s like,” he said.

Her brows furrowed.

“To be invisible,” he continued. “To be used. To have your worth measured by how much people think they can take from you.”

Elena’s breath caught.

“That company—this entire empire—was built because I promised myself something a long time ago,” he said. “If I ever had power
I would never let it turn me into someone like him.”

Her eyes filled again—but this time, not with pain.

With something warmer.

“Then
 what happens now?” she asked.

Julian stepped closer, but kept a respectful distance.

“That depends on you,” he said. “You can stay here—with proper pay, proper treatment. Or
if you want something more, I can help you build a future beyond this place.”

May you like

Elena looked at him, truly looked.

And for the first time, she felt like she had a choice.
