Chapter 4: The Unseen Witness

Evelyn gasped, her eyes widening in absolute horror.
Her briefcase slipped from her fingers, clattering loudly against the marble floor.
Standing just ten feet behind her,
emerging from the shadows of the courtroom corridor,
was not just one person, but a dozen.
The Judge: The presiding judge of the very trial they were attending.
The Press: Three different investigative journalists with their cameras still rolling, having followed Evelyn to get a statement.
Security: Two armed courthouse marshals who had their hands resting on their holsters.
They had seen everything.
The smirk on Evelyn's face turned into an ashen mask of terror as she realized the gravity of her mistake.
"Ma'am, put your hands behind your back," o
ne of the marshals ordered,
stepping forward with his handcuffs drawn.
Down below, paramedics burst through the front doors,
rushing to Arthur and Corria’s side.
As they loaded Corria onto a stretcher,
she let out a weak cry,
but the lead paramedic offered a glimmer of hope.
"Fetal heartbeat is strong. You're going to be okay, ma'am."
Arthur stood up, watching as Evelyn was aggressively detained and read her rights.
