The letter from her father remained unopened for weeks.

It sat on her desk, untouched, its edges beginning to curl slightly under the Italian sun that spilled through her windows each morning.

She knew what it would say.

Advice. Strategy. Warnings disguised as wisdom.

For most of her life, his voice had been the loudest in her mind. Not cruel—but calculated. Everything had a purpose. Every emotion, a cost.

But silence had taught her something else.

She didn’t need to read it to move forward.

One evening, as the sky turned gold over the water, she finally picked it up—not to open it, but to decide.

She walked to the fireplace.

Paused.

Then placed it gently into the flame.

The paper curled, blackened, and disappeared.

No anger. No regret.

Just release.
