Chapter 9: A Life Without Strategy

One morning, Mariana realized she had nothing urgent to solve.

No crisis waiting.

No enemy to anticipate.

No move to counter.

It felt… unfamiliar.

She sat on the terrace with a cup of coffee, watching the sunlight stretch across the water.

Luca joined her, placing a folder on the table. “Expansion plans,” he said. “If you’re ready.”

She glanced at it—but didn’t open it immediately.

“Do you ever stop thinking ahead?” he asked casually.

She considered the question.

“For most of my life,” she said, “thinking ahead was how I survived.”

“And now?”

Mariana took a slow breath.

“Now I’m learning how to exist in a moment that doesn’t require defense.”

Luca smiled faintly. “That sounds harder than strategy.”

“It is,” she admitted.

But it was also… lighter.

Later that day, she walked through the sanctuary—not as its creator, but simply as someone present.

A child ran past her, laughing.

A woman sat in the sun reading, completely at ease.

No one looked over their shoulder.

That was the success.

Not control.

May you like

Not power.

Peace.
