Chapter 2: What They Never Expected

They thought he would cool down.

That this was just another emotional outburst. That by morning, everything would return to normal.

They didn’t know Ethan had already made the call.

By the time his brother-in-law tried to argue again, security had arrived.

Not one guard.

Four.

Professional. Silent. Efficient.

“Sir,” one of them nodded. “We’re ready.”

Ethan didn’t even look at his family as he spoke.

“Escort them out.”

His mother’s voice rose sharply. “You’re choosing her over your own blood?”

Ethan finally turned.

And what she saw in his eyes made her step back.

“I’m choosing the woman who stood alone while all of you sat here laughing.”

No one had a response to that.

Not a single one.

Suitcases were dragged. Protests turned into desperate pleas. But within thirty minutes, the house was empty.

The door closed.

And just like that—

So did that chapter of his life.
