That night, he didn’t sleep.
He sat beside his wife as she finally rested, her face still damp with dried tears. Every shallow breath she took felt like a quiet accusation against him.
He had seen it before—the subtle dismissals, the small commands, the expectations placed on her. But he had ignored them, convincing himself it was just “family dynamics.”
Not anymore.
The next morning, the house felt different.
At breakfast, he spoke calmly, “Things will change from today.”
His mother laughed. “Oh? And what exactly will you do?”
He placed a document on the table.
“A caretaker will be hired. And my wife will not be doing any housework until after the baby is born.”
The room erupted.
“You’re choosing her over your family?” his uncle snapped.
