Chapter 8 - The Turning Tide

The taller of the two men held up a thick manila envelope.

He looked directly at Sarah with a cold, calculating stare.

"We are here to serve a court-ordered psychiatric hold on Sarah Sterling," the man announced.

Mark immediately stepped between the lawyers and his wife's hospital bed.

His broad shoulders completely blocked their view of her fragile form.

David smoothly slid into the room right behind the two intruders.

The sharp attorney adjusted his glasses with a very confident smirk.

"You are incredibly late to the party, gentlemen," David said dryly.

He snatched the manila envelope right out of the taller lawyer's hand.

"This order is based on a completely fabricated evaluation orchestrated by Eleanor Sterling."

The second lawyer bristled angrily at the bold accusation.

"You have absolutely no proof to back up such a slanderous claim," he countered.

Dr. Thorne calmly stepped forward from the shadows of the hospital room.

He held up his specialized, high-resolution medical camera.

"I am a board-certified trauma surgeon, and I just documented severe, targeted physical abuse," Dr. Thorne stated.

"These injuries perfectly match the heavy, silver-handled oak cane Eleanor Sterling always carries."

The color completely drained from the faces of both opposing attorneys.

They instantly realized their wealthy client had lied to them about the nature of the injuries.

"We will be filing criminal assault charges against Eleanor within the hour," Mark added fiercely.

David handed the useless manila envelope back to the visibly stunned men.

"I highly suggest you inform your client that she now needs a criminal defense attorney," David warned.

The two corporate lawyers exchanged a very nervous, defeated glance.

They turned around and practically ran out of the hospital room.

Sarah let out a long, shuddering breath of pure relief.

Mark sat back down on the edge of the bed and held her close.
