CHAPTER 3: CONSEQUENCES

Within twenty minutes, everything changed.

A doctor was on the way.

A cleaning service had been called.

And two suitcases sat by the front door.

Brenda stared at them in disbelief. “What is this supposed to mean?”

“It means you’re leaving,” Marcus said flatly.

“You can’t be serious.”

“I’ve never been more serious in my life.”

Rachel let out a sharp laugh. “Over this? She’s being dramatic—”

Marcus cut her off. “No. I’ve been blind.”

He stepped closer, his voice steady but final.

“I thought inviting you here would help my family. Instead, you made my wife feel alone in her own home.”

Brenda’s expression hardened. “You’re choosing her over your own mother?”

Marcus didn’t hesitate.

“I’m choosing the woman who’s carrying my child and raising my daughter.”

Silence.

Heavy. Final.
