Chapter 5 - The True Colors

Chloe stared at Daniel, unable to comprehend the absolute finality in his voice.

"You cannot do this to me," she whispered, her voice trembling with genuine panic.

"We have a massive, million-dollar wedding planned for next month."

"The invitations have already been sent to hundreds of important people."

Daniel did not even turn around to face her.

"I will personally handle the cancellations and the public fallout," he replied coldly.

"I would rather face a month of social embarrassment than a lifetime tied to a monster."

The word hung heavily in the chilling air, striking Chloe harder than any physical blow.

Her desperate sorrow instantly morphed back into the vicious anger she had displayed earlier.

"You need me, Daniel," Chloe spat out, her true nature finally on full display.

"Without my family's elite connections, your new commercial development project will completely collapse."

Eleanor stepped forward, her wet shoes squishing softly against the pristine marble.

"I think you severely overestimate your family's influence in this city, Chloe," Eleanor stated calmly.

"I secretly bought out your father's failing investment firm exactly three weeks ago."

Chloe gasped sharply, her eyes widening in absolute, paralyzing horror.

"He did not want to tell you because he was deeply ashamed of his massive financial ruin," Eleanor continued smoothly.

"You have absolutely nothing of value to leverage against my son."

"You are currently standing in my house, wearing my family's heirloom diamonds, and breathing my air."

"Now, take off that necklace and leave my property before I have you escorted out in handcuffs."

Defeated and utterly humiliated, Chloe reached behind her neck with shaking hands.

She fumbled with the clasp before finally unhooking the heavy diamond necklace.

She let the priceless jewelry drop carelessly onto the wet floor.

The precious stones clattered loudly against the cold, hard marble.

Without uttering another word, Chloe turned and fled up the grand staircase to pack her bags.
